May 2011: Esther is a leader at the school. She is 13 years old and wants to be a nurse or doctor when she grows up. Esther is of the Teso ethnic group, which originates in eastern Uganda and western Kenya. Esther lives with her mom, older sister Betty, and younger brother. She and Betty look a lot alike, although Betty is 2 years older and is in her first year of secondary school. Esther can usually be found with her best friend Winnie, although many girls tell me that Esther is their best friend; she is well liked by all. she loves to play netball. This month Betty was able to take part in 2 field trips. She took a bus to Jinja and went on a boat tour of the Nile River, and went to Wonder World, a fun amusement park. She was also seen by a nurse and given medication for de-worming.
